3 Types Of Bonds For Getting A Love One Out Of Jail

by Clémence Moulin

Finding out a loved one is sitting behind bars can be a frightening and stressful experience. You are now left trying to figure out what to do to get them back out and home where they belong. Thankfully, there are a few different types of bonds available that can help address the situation and get them back out until after their sentencing is done and over with. To help you know what you are dealing with, here are a few of the typical bond options available to your loved one.

Cash Bonds

With a cash bond, you simply need to go into the jail and pay whatever the amount of the bond is to get your loved one out. If the bond amount is $1,000, you will need to pay the amount in full before they are released. These are generally lower amounts for you to be able to afford them. However, there are instances where the judge will set them higher depending on the nature of the case. If the amount is way more than you can afford, you would need to turn to a bail bondsmen to help.

Personal Recognizance

This is the most preferred type of bond for anyone who is on the outside and trying to help get their loved one out of jail. When the defendant is granted this type of bond, you don't need to pay anything up front. The individual is released on their word that they are going to come back to court when they are told. This is often the case for first-time offenders or those being charged with a lesser offense.

Surety Bonds

With a surety bond, a bail bondsmen will come in and post the amount of the bond for you without your having to pay for the entire amount on your own. They will charge you a fee to do so, but it is far less than what you would normally pay out-of-pocket. They are often willing to let you put a vehicle, house, land or anything else of value up as collateral to help minimize the amount you pay out-of-pocket. As long as the individual does what they are supposed to, you get your title or property back no questions asked.

Typically, one of the above three options will be available to your loved one. While a personal recognizance is always the least expensive option, at least the other two give you a chance to help get them released until after the matter has been resolved. Discuss your options with a bail bondsman like All-Mobile Bail Bonds today when the personal recognizance bond isn't an option.
